Tesoro Announces Platforms for Actions Directed to Seniors and Youth

Trumbull, CT (October 16, 2017): First Selectman candidate Vicki Tesoro and Team Tesoro believe the Trumbull town government has a responsibility to engage and support all of our residents, from our youngest to our eldest. Vicki wants to restore and reinvigorate the vital sense of community that should unite Trumbullites.  She believes the town can inspire that spirit by fostering a stronger sense of connection, camaraderie and pride.

Over eighteen percent of Trumbull residents are 65-years-of-age or older. Team Tesoro wants input from these experienced individuals. The seniors will be consulted, both formally and informally, to gather their input on the programs and services currently offered, as well as, what they would like to see added. Team Tesoro will research varied tax relief and deferral programs and inform seniors of their options and choices. By assembling Trumbull EMS, police, health department, and social services staff together, Team Tesoro will identify the health and safety needs of seniors, and implement educational programs to support and assist them.

Twenty-five percent of Trumbull residents are under 18-years-of-age. Vicki believes the town must provide a high-quality education for our youth, and also activities and recreational opportunities that enable them to develop and showcase their talents and interests. Research shows that youth who are involved in, and feel valued by, their community perform better in school and are less likely to engage in risky or illegal behaviors.

Team Tesoro will work to reinstate the Youth Commission and include teen representation. The Teen Center at Indian Ledge will be revisited and revitalized to make it a desirable venue. Vicki wants the Trumbull Youth Association (TYA), which provides youth theatre and the arts, returned to an independent line item in the budget.

Vicki wants these programs to be treated as enriching experiences for the whole community. Tesoro knows that our seniors and our youth must play integral parts of Trumbull’s community life.  Vicki stated, “With collaboration and community engagement, our town thrives. We are better together.”
